It is a new year and Elora Physiotherapy is excited to introduce it’s new running program! It is created and run by physiotherapist, Dan Southwell, who brings an impressive background in sports physiotherapy and a keen interest in runners and their unique needs.
Who is it for?
- Everyone! Especially those interested in learning how to run/how to safely begin a running program
- Runners across all levels of experience who are currently dealing with pain or injury (both acute and chronic).
- Athletes looking to maximize their running efficiency and improve their running technique.
What does the program look like?
You will begin with a one hour initial consultation with Dan. If applicable, this will include a thorough history of your previous running and an examination of your areas of pain. This will help Dan to understand what needs to be addressed in your treatments so you can achieve your running goals!
Next, a video analysis will be completed to assess your gait. This will help to determine what technique changes can be implemented to help you run your best, reduce pain and improve efficiency. Dan will use our Curv gait analysis app to obtain objective data related to running cadence, stride length, and trunk and lower limb angles. These values, along with slow motion video analysis, enable us to uncover side-to-side differences or technique errors that may increase your risk of injury.
Dan will review the findings from the assessment with you and together, you will develop an individualized training plan that may consist of cues to improve your running technique and targeted strengthening exercises to address any underlying muscle imbalances. Together you will determine the need for, and frequency of, follow up visits, which are often spread over a period of 8-12 weeks. All appointments are one-on-one with Dan for 30 or 60 minutes and can be billed under your extended health benefits if available.
