Starting the New Year in pain?
Here are 5 things you need to know about pain to set yourself up for a successful recovery in 2026!
1️⃣ Pain does not always equal tissue damage
Pain is your brain’s way of protecting you.
Just because something hurts doesn’t mean that you’re damaged, and it definitely doesn’t mean you won’t get better.
2️⃣ Pain doesn’t mean you stop forever
If something hurts, it doesn’t mean you have to avoid it long term.
Sometimes it means taking a short break, and sometimes it just means modifying the movement to find a pain free way to do it.
As your brain and body learn that a movement is safe, pain often settles and you can gradually return to full capacity.
3️⃣ You don’t need someone to “fix” you
YOU are the most important part of your rehab plan.
Your healthcare team can support you and facilitate your recovery, but the things you do outside the clinic matter most – that might include rest, gentle movement, aerobic exercise, or modifying how you manage your day to day tasks.
4️⃣ Flare ups will happen
Recovery is rarely linear and sometimes there are setbacks along the way.
Having a plan for flare ups can help you stay calm, active, and take appropriate action when pain increases. No need to give up when symptoms spike!
5️⃣ Progress beats perfection
Small, consistent steps will add up over time. Focus on what you can do and trust that improvement takes time.
If pain is holding you back – we are here to help you take the next steps in your recovery!
