The last Wednesday of every September is Rowan’s Law Day. This day brings awareness to the importance of concussion safety in honour of Rowan Stringer, a young rugby player who passed away from Second Impact Syndrome.
Second Impact Syndrome occurs when someone sustains a second head injury before the brain has completely recovered from a previous concussion. This is a rare, but incredibly serious injury that can have devastating consequences for those involved.
Rowan’s Law ensures that teachers, coaches/trainers, parents, and health care providers are regularly educated on identifying, preventing, and managing concussion in young students and athletes.
