Shockwave Therapy Now Available at Elora Physiotherapy!
Peter is excited to offer shockwave therapy to patients at Elora Physiotherapy. Having used this therapy for over 12 years with outstanding results, he is thrilled to add it to his practice, as it provides significant benefits for a wide range of conditions.
For those unfamiliar, shockwave therapy is a non-invasive, highly effective form of acoustic (sound) therapy that can be used to treat various injuries and conditions. It can be applied as a standalone treatment or in combination with other therapies like physiotherapy, rehabilitation, and massage.
There is strong clinical evidence supporting the use of shockwave therapy for the following conditions:
- Plantar fasciitis
- Achilles tendinopathy
- Jumper’s knee (Patellar tendinopathy)
- Tendon injuries (Tendinopathy)
- Myofascial trigger points
- Bursitis
- Stiff big toe (Hallux rigidus)
- Tendonitis
- Scar tissue (Post-surgical or trauma)
- Calcific tendonitis of the rotator cuff
- Frozen shoulder (Adhesive capsulitis)
- Non-healing fractures (Non-union of bone)
- Shoulder pain
- Tennis elbow
- Heel spurs
- Shin splints
- Stress fractures
- Enhancing bone healing
- Muscle and connective tissue injuries
There are contraindications to shockwave therapy. It is not recommended if any of the following conditions apply:
- Pregnancy
- Blood clotting disorders (including thrombosis or hemophilia)
- Oral anticoagulant use (increased risk of bruising)
- Steroid injections (within the past 6 weeks, e.g., cortisone)
- Pacemaker fitted
- Presence of tumors at the treatment site
- Infection or skin abrasion at the treatment site
- Under 18 years old (except for specific conditions like Osgood-Schlatter disease)
- Over joint replacement
By reducing pain and stimulating tissue regeneration, shockwave therapy promotes faster healing and resolution of injuries. Typically, 4-6 sessions are required to achieve the full benefits of this treatment. Please reach out if you have any questions or to book your shockwave therapy!
