As we continue to celebrate National Physiotherapy Month and the promotion of healthy aging, we shine the spotlight on the topic of pain.

We talk a lot about pain as physiotherapists! This month the Canadian Physiotherapy Association shares on their website:

“Physiotherapy helps prevent and manage pain.

  • Physiotherapy reduces reliance on opioids to manage pain.
  • Physiotherapy exercise rehabilitation can reduce pain and disability, as well as improve quality of life for patients with musculoskeletal pain.
  • Physiotherapy effectively treats and reduces lower back pain, osteoarthritis, and other musculoskeletal pain conditions.
  • Timely and appropriate access to physiotherapy can reduce reliance on publicly funded health care services and medications to manage pain.”

We are understanding pain science better each day. We know that chronic pain responds best to movement, exercise, increased support of mental health and for optimal treatment effects a multifactorial, interdisciplinary team approach.
